email question.
answer:
The good news, the hardest part is over. Quiz 7 covers 2 things: L2/L3 packet as it moves in the network. Conceptual definitions.
Look at lab 5 material (we covered it back then), life-in-packet.pdf Basically, given a source computer, a destination computer, and a packet somewhere in between, identify the layer2 (mac) and layer 3(IP) headers of that packet, at that instance. The pdf explains (its easy, L3 is from source and destination computer, L2 is the mac source/destination of its particular hop/location).
What might be a bit more difficult is, lab 7 material, 'networkconcepts.pdf'. It is simply fill in the black. Example question, which protocol is used by PING (answer: ICMP). Which protocol is used to translate a name to an IP address? Oh, and understand the basics of ARP. Which MAC address do we receive for an IP destination in-network, and out-of-network.
The life-in-packet is the bigger one, but the concepts arent hard, but does require a certain amount of memorization. Dont forget, we drop the lowest 3 (but its important to understand for the final).
